The Personal Safety and Community Awareness Program (PSCA) strives to create a future in which children are empowered and educated, adults are equipped and aware, and our community is a safer place for children and families.

Child maltreatment

Florida Law recognizes five categories of child maltreatment:

• Neglect ~ Chronic failure of a caretaker to provide basic needs
• Abandonment ~Willful rejection of parental obligations 
• Physical Abuse ~ Non-accidental injury of a child  
• Sexual Abuse ~ Sexual exploitation by an older/more powerful person 
• Emotional Abuse ~ pattern of behavior that attacks a child’s emotional and psychological development

By providing a variety of educational programs designed to increase children’s personal safety knowledge and decrease their vulnerability to exploitation, assist parents and caregivers in teaching a reinforcing personal safety concepts, equip professionals with key knowledge about child maltreatment, and raise community awareness of the issue of abuse and neglect, we work towards our ultimate goal of eliminating child abuse.
