Child Protection Team Authority

Section 39.303, Florida Statutes, authorizes the Children’s Medical Services Program in the Department of Health to develop, maintain, and coordinate Child Protection Team Services through contracts with local community-based programs.

The Child Protection Center, Inc. has held the contract to provide CPT services for Sarasota and DeSoto counties since 1980.

Pursuant to Chapter 39.202(6); All records and reports of the child protection team of the Department of Health are confidential and exempt from the provisions of ss. 119.071(1), and 39.202 and shall not be disclosed, except upon request to the state attorney, law enforcement, and the Department of Children and Families, and necessary professionals, in furtherance of the treatment or additional evaluative need of the child or by order of the court, or to health plan payors, limited to that information used for insurance reimbursement purposes.
