Child Protection Center Receives Funding for Child Abuse Intervention Services

Jerome Paddock Foundation awards grant to the Child Protection Team

(SARASOTA, FL, 08/2022)- The Child Protection Center, Inc (CPC) recently received a $20,000 grant through the generosity of the Jerome Paddock Foundation. The Foundation granted these funds in continuation of their support of the child abuse intervention services provided by the Child Protection Team (CPT).

“The Child Protection Team is the sole clearinghouse for all child abuse reports logged in Sarasota and DeSoto counties,” explained Doug Staley, Executive Director of the Child Protection Center. “This is a team of remarkably dedicated and expertly trained individuals serving this community’s most vulnerable population: children who are abused, neglected, and exploited.”

In the last fiscal year, CPT reviewed 3,259 abuse reports, conducted 378 forensic interviews for alleged victims of child abuse, and provided services to 739 children in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. The grant provided by the Jerome Paddock Foundation directly supports these intervention services during a crucial time as the nonprofit expands to meet growing demands. In recent years, both the coronavirus and local population growth have created a drastically heightened need for services, with a particularly sharp increase in child sexual abuse and suicidal ideation.

“We are extremely pleased to announce that in our past quarter, the Child Protection Team has fully launched services within our new secondary location in North Port,” said Doug. “This is an enormous stepping stone for CPC and our community as it provides better access to our essential services for families in South County in addition to our main offices in Sarasota, ultimately ensuring that more children are brought to safety.”

The Child Protection Center’s mission is the Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment of Child Abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For over 40 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
