Child Protection Center Receives Grant for Visitation Program

Funding awarded by The Plantation Community Foundation of Venice

(SARASOTA, FL, 06/2022)- The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) was selected as the recipient of a grant sponsored by The Plantation Community Foundation of Venice, Florida. These funds will provide essential equipment and supplies for CPC’s Children and Families Supervised Visitation Program (CFSVP or SVP), one of the organization’s child abuse intervention programs.

“The support of The Plantation Community Foundation is crucial to CFSVP,” said Sheila Miller, VP of Philanthropy at the Child Protection Center. “[This funding] ensures that families interact in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere as they rebuild their broken relationships.” The foundation’s support will be utilized to purchase much needed supplies such as toys, games, dolls, books, coloring books, videos, and furniture. “CPC is dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, educational, and positive environment for this transformative program, striving to offer a variety of multi-cultural books, games, and toys for children to select from, and to ensure these tools are representative of all ages, races, abilities, and cultural beliefs.”

CPC reported a shortage on such supplies throughout the pandemic, a need which still increases as the population in North Port continues to rise. This population growth is resulting in a higher demand for the nonprofit’s services, to which the organization has purchased a new building and property in North Port, with services successfully beginning this past April.

286 individuals in Sarasota County utilized CFSVP in fiscal year 2020-2021. Referrals are accepted from the 12th Judicial Circuit Court and community agencies. Services are provided onsite in North Port and Sarasota.

The Child Protection Center’s mission is the Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment of Child Abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For over 40 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida, and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
