Child Protection Center Welcomes Two Members to Board
The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) has announced the appointment of Jennifer Fox and Charlie Brooks as new members to its board of directors.
“It is a privilege to welcome Jennifer and Charlie to our board,” said Doug Staley, Executive Director of CPC. “They are devoted advocates and firm believers in making a difference for children. This is a crucial point for the Child Protection Center as we face the growing needs for child abuse services in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, and we are very fortunate to Jennifer and Charlie for their expertise and remarkable dedication to protecting the youth in our community.”
Jennifer and her husband, Larry Fox, have been involved with CPC for over a decade through sponsorships, serving on committees, and raising pivotal funds for the center’s recent 40th Anniversary. “Helping to support the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse should be everyone’s mission. I feel CPC is one of the best organizations in town and I am proud to be a part of advocating for such an important cause.” Jennifer states that through her new role on the board, she hopes to bring awareness to those that are not familiar with the nonprofit and the critical services they provide.
Charlie Brooks was first introduced to the topic of child abuse in 2014, when his daughter revealed that a member of their family had abused her many years prior in her childhood. Not long after, he learned of CPC at a luncheon where Sheila Miller, CPC’s VP of Philanthropy, presented about the organization. “I determined that day- this was a charity needing both my time and financial support.” Charlie goes on to say that he’s honored to have been selected as a new member of the board, commenting, “It is an opportunity to address an ugly problem. Since being made aware of child abuse in my own family, I have learned about the overwhelming evidence of this situation existing all over our nation. I believe, therefore, it is essential for our city to have a facility to serve as a safe haven and provide help for children that have been abused.”
The Child Protection Center’s mission is the Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment of Child Abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For over 40 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance. For more information on CPC, call 941-365-1277.
